Small Group Work: -----Each group will be given a chapter (1-3). -----Each group will identify and explain the setting, symbols, characters, foreshadowing, allusions, idioms, relationships/friendships that are found in their assigned chapter. ----Each group will write down their findings on a large sticky to be shared with the rest of the class. 3. Begin to discuss possible themes found in the book, make a list on the board. Homework: 1. Read ch. 4, begin tracking the major themes found in the book. Honors track 3 themes, CPA track 2 themes, and CP track 1theme. Use sticky notes to track. 2. Honor Students- Your book review is due Friday Nov. 6. Reading quiz on end of book. Finished group work on two poems and discussed them. Started talking about next assignment, "This I Believe Essays." HW: Work on extra reading project: CPA and Honors.
Practiced transitional strategies some more (handout). Talked about last night's reading using journals. Small group work/jigsaw using 2 poems, "Sonnet 73" by William Shakespeare and "The World is Too Much with Us" by William Wordsworth.
Journal: "Take a Line for a Ride." Share entries. Talked about the need for transitions in writing and what that actually means. Presented strategies for transitioning and practiced them. HW: Read TWM according to posted schedule and write 2 dialectical journal posts in response to the reading.
Reading quiz pages 80-129. Talked about dialectic journals. Practiced Awubis comma rule using model sentences. HW: Pages 130-159 with 3 sticky notes.
