Shortened period today due to assembly. Check homework for sticky notes on chapter 4 TKAM. Continue discussion generated by groups yesterday in class. Talk about conflict and allusions in chapter 4. Read silently and begin writing on 3 quotes from this chapter in a dialectical journal (2-column) in the literature section of your notebook. HW: Finish reading and writing dialectical journal for homework.

Homework quiz on Chapter 3. New vocabulary words presented. (quiz on Thursday since no school Friday). Brief glossary of literary terms to add to this section of your notebook.
Talk about allusions and conflict. Small group discussions on chapters 1-3 HW: Read chapter 4 in TKAM. Use 3 sticky notes to identify either allusions or conflict in the chapter. On the sticky note record either the allusion and its effect on the story or a conflict and what kind of conflict it is. Took vocab. quiz. Wrote list of characters you have met so far with a brief description of each one. Presented new independent assignment, optional for CP and required for Honors and CPA HW: Read chapter 3 in To Kill a Mockingbird. If you are required to complete the additional assignment, start looking for a book. Here's a link to the 2015 Alex Awards which identifies adult books that appeal to teens. Just one option for your independent assignment.
Checked HW. Listened to more poems. Explained dialectical journal showing sample entry and then used quotes from last night to analyze text using this form. Talked about findings as whole class. Worked in pairs to start studying for vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Reviewed vocabulary words for Chapter 1 in TKAM. Logged into Jupiter Grades if you have not done so already. Signed up for "Turnitin" (see link from my website). Then, type your "Where I'm From" Poems and save to your student drive. Then, follow instructions for uploading a document to" Turnitin." HW: Make sure your poem is submitted through "Turnitin." Label your notebook sections in the following order: 1) Literature 2) Literary Terms 3)Writing/Grammar Mini-Lessons 4) Drafts
