Group discussion on literature circle groups. Comments on opening paragraphs of book reviews. Overall, you need to make sure you include a lead, then transition into a brief plot summary. Don't get caught up in too much detail and avoid saying too much about character here since the next paragraph is about character. HW: Handout on Transitions. Advice: Also work on reviews or catching up on reading SSR book so you can finish reviews. They are not due until next Friday 1/17, but you know other teachers will be assigning end of term work so plan accordingly. Make sure you look at sample posted yesterday. This is a straightforward assignment and you should do well on it if you follow directions. Make sure you are not plaigarizing. I know your writing at this point in the year, and I want you to get credit for this assignment.

Welcome back! Discuss graded journal entries. Review samples of entries to reinforce expectations in future writing. HW: Write 3/4 page journal entry connecting your literature circle book to the following quote from The Book Thief : "Words are Life, Liesel." First talk about what the quote means, and then how it is relevant to your particular book. What do words mean to the characters in your story? How can they change your character's life?
